The Story of Rojo

Hailed as Jersey’s first boutique Cocktail Lounge, Rojo was the first to bring mixology to the island and from its humble beginnings; Rojo has spurred a wave in cocktail appreciation making it the stuff of legend locally. As purveyors of world class cocktails and a vibe in house to match, Rojo has an ethos, which stems deep from within its roots; nothing but the very best – quality is key.

From the small basement bar where the Rojo story began in 2006, the bar and its avid crowd have since moved to bigger premises. Still in the heart of St Helier, Rojo attracts the same vibe and people, but on a larger scale these days. In this case, bigger means more, it means diverse and versatile, it means ‘better’. The ethos remains, as does the quality and many of the original staff are steadfast in their commitment to Jersey’s primary cocktail lounge. Rojo, as always, “keeps Jersey’s nightlife on its toes – expect characters, mischief, great drinks and equally great patter.”

And now...

What lies behind the doors of Rojo nowadays is a vast difference to the original ‘speakeasy’ style bar of yore. Rojo is set across three magnificent floors; each with it’s own identity and function.

The Vintage Bar

The trademark ‘vintage’ inspired bar is first stop on the ground floor; a tip of the hat to the prohibition era, deep colours, dimmed lighting, great music of all genres and of course, cocktails are made with a delicate touch and a mixologist’s pedantry for getting things right. For a nibble, try the tapas – always a Rojo must on the to do list.

The Nightclub

Upstairs on the middle floor lies a nightclub, to dance off the tapas and shake it. An intimate side bar lends itself to a more relaxed setting… An array of DJs, both local and international can be found, drink in hand, gracing the decks every weekend. Unfeigned by the Jaegerbomb crowd, Rojo ‘The Club’ offers something a little more in keeping with class and sophistication, as well as the surrounds to match.

The Roof

Up on the roof… Yes, al fresco! Something that was definitely lacking at the original Rojo bar… Now (weather depending), you can move it all outside, onto the Gatsbyesque/secret garden inspired roof terrace. With soft acoustic live music on Fridays and ambient electro providing the soundtrack in the dusk sprinkled evenings, the roof terrace is the ideal place to eat lunch or meet for after work drinks in the sun or under the canopy… The Rojo Roof terrace is one of the few al fresco areas this end of town. Smokers welcome.
